Judges said they had clearly researched their subject well, impressing the audience with a wide range of facts and statistics to support their argument.

However, the leading speaker of the whole competition was Dahli Proud of Fylingdales School, who was presented with The Perry Cup.

She had delivered a passionate speech on the topic, All we are saying is “Give Peace A Chance”.

Everyone was convinced not only by her reasoned argument but also by her effective communication skills.

Chief organiser Mike Stones said: “We at the Rotary Club consider it a privilege to offer the local youngsters the opportunity to challenge themselves and deliver speeches in this competition.

“They always respond magnificently to that challenge and should feel very proud of themselves for what they have achieved.”
