Three 'exceptional' members of the community to switch on Whitby's Christmas lights

This year’s Whitby Christmas lights will be switched on by three “exceptional” members of the community who were all involved in the response against the fires that affected Langdale Moor this summer.

William Butterfield’s quick action stopped the fires consuming his family’s caravan park.

Amy Cockrem raised tens of thousands of pounds to provide support for the farmers who spent weeks helping the fire service to bring the blaze under control.

And Niall Fagan worked tirelessly as a firefighter with his colleagues from North Yorkshire and all the other firefighters from around the country.

As well as the Dock End markets and family fun, Eighteen 91 (formerly Chapel on the Hill) in Whitby will offer festive stalls and seasonal treats as well as a visit from Father Christmas and Mrs Claus.
