At Whitsuntide in June the town was crowded with visitors, and over the weekend the North Bay bathing pool attracted a daily average of four thousand customers.

In July and August more than a thousand evacuees arrived from London, and compulsory billeting was introduced as most people refused to give them a home, despite a generous cash allowance.

In September blackout restrictions were removed, and street lighting was resumed on bus routes.

In early December Scarborough's branch of the Home Guard mustered for their final parade, on the cricket ground.
