Whitby Lions invite people to add a stone to Path of Celebration
Whitby Lions Club is offering people a unique opportunity to put their mark on the town by helping to create a permanent memorial, offering fantastic views across to the abbey.
Whitby Lions is asking people if they’d like to add a stone to their Path of Celebration, so they can go on supporting local people and organisations.
A spokesperson for the group said: “It is not solely intended as a memorial, being alive does not prevent you from having a stone.
“The recipient may be a beloved individual; a family local or otherwise; or an overseas visitor with or without historic links to the town.
“No-one is disqualified.”
The first two groups of stones are already in place and the Lions are halfway through collecting names for a third section.
Your chosen wording will be recorded on a Yorkshire Sandstone slab.
People should note there will be a time lag between ordering the stone and having it laid.
“We work with local companies,” the Lions added.
“Dring’s cut and engrave the stones, while Wilf Noble Construction lays them for us.
“We work in batches of ten for economies of scale.
“Finding that ‘perfect gift’ for our special people has never been easy.
“Hopefully Whitby Lions Club can offer you something different and permanent.
“This offer is available to everyone, visitors and locals alike who love Whitby.”
An engraved stone will cost £200.
