Whitby opticians walk The Cinder Track raises £1,000 for Diabetes UK
A team of dedicated opticians in Whitby raised £1,001 after walking The Cinder Track from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay in aid of Diabetes UK.
Specsavers Whitby decided to tackle the picturesque seven-mile walk along North Yorkshire’s old railway line, which connects Whitby to Scarborough, to raise awareness of diabetes.

People with diabetes are at risk of developing diabetic retinopathy, a complication of diabetes that damages the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye called the retina.
If left undiagnosed and untreated, diabetic retinopathy can lead to significant vision impairment.
Sophie Harland, director at Specsavers Whitby, said: “On behalf of the team, we would like to thank everyone who took part in our fundraiser.
"A heartfelt thank you also goes to the wonderful members of our community and customers who sponsored us and generously donated to support such a vital charity like Diabetes UK, which invests millions into research in hopes of one day finding a cure.
“Diabetes UK estimates that over 5.8 million people in the UK are living with the condition, reaching record numbers.
"At Specsavers, we’re committed to supporting and providing helpful information to those affected.
"It's essential to raise awareness about diabetic eye health - it helps people understand the connection between diabetes and vision issues and encourages regular screenings, which can prevent serious complications.”
