Whitby Regatta chiefs still hopeful event can go ahead this summer
Organisers of Whitby Regatta are hopeful that the three-day event could still go ahead this summer, after being postponed for the first time last year.
Secretary Ian Winspear said: "In response to all the enquiries currently being received we are continuing to plan as usual for Whitby Regatta 2021 and also preparing for every eventuality.
"This may include having to scale down some events which normally form part of the regatta weekend.
"Developments over forthcoming months will be crucial to whether the event can go forward, especially if current social distancing measures are to be maintained.
"The uncertainty lies in the conditions that must be met in each of the Government’s roadmap stages.
"Due to this uncertainty we are all facing, the Whitby Regatta Committee will not be making a final decision until closer to the summer.
"Any updates will be published on this site and the Whitby Regatta Facebook page.
"We thank you all for your continued support and hope to see you this summer. "
