Whitby Regatta sea swim: your chance to get involved as a swimmer or volunteer

Ceri Parkin, one of the organisers, said: “In 2022, Ally Brisby and I decided to reinstate the traditional Sandsend to Whitby swim – which stopped running in the late 1980s - as part of Whitby Regatta.
“With huge support from the Whitby Regatta committee, we were able to plan the event and also introduce a new swim race, the 1,000m beach hut swim.

"We have recently launched places for both distances for this year’s regatta, on Saturday August 9.
"There are a few spots left in each swim if someone fancies a new challenge.
"It is a really friendly community-spirited day with a great atmosphere.

If anyone is interested in volunteering on the day, as part of the water safety team or beach marshall, email [email protected] for more.
This year’s regatta is on from August 9 and 11 and a Crowdfunder was recently launched to help ensure the event’s aerial attractions – the Lancaster bomber and RAF Falcons - go ahead.
At least £6,000 needs to be raised by the end of April or there is a risk the air shows may not happen.
