Whitby RNLI pair pass tier two training to become fully qualified crew members

Two members of Whitby lifeboat crew, Luke Pentith and Max Burnett, have passed their tier two assessments – and are now fully qualified volunteer crew members.

RNLI trainer and assessor Matt Blanchard took the pair to sea in the all-weather Shannon class lifeboat Lois Ivan and put their training to the test.

The assessment is hands-on and involves proving their competency in areas like anchoring and berthing, man overboard procedures and towing.

Luke and Max both passed and are now fully qualified volunteer crew at Whitby.

Station manager Barry Brown said: "It is a great start to the year to have two of our volunteers pass their tier two assessents.

"It is our priority to make sure that our volunteers are trained to the highest standard in order to keep themselves and others safe at sea.”
