Whitby’s Benson Stage Academy pupils showcase their skills
The afternoon, which took place just before the virus lockdown, was opened by the Senior Freestyle class performing ‘Let’s get Loud’ – a lively Latin number which set the atmosphere for the event.
Pupils then displayed their own ideas on choreography and costumes, performing all their own work to the delighted audience.
Next was the presentation of the 2019 UKA Dance awards presented by Past Principal Barbara Benson-Smith and teachers Jenny Flinton, Abbey Emmerson and Josh Emmerson.
All pupils had a very successful year with the highest number of distinctions gained within the academy.
The money raised from the tombola alongside entry raised £200 for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
Principal Julia Trillo-Howard said: “Every year the children astound us with their ideas and talent.
“All who took part received a certificate and medal for their efforts.
“Thanks go out to Justin, Michelle, and staff at the Metropole for the fabulous venue and support.
“Thank you also to all who helped throughout the day and anyone who contributed to the tombola prizes.
“Your support is very much appreciated.
“A lovely afternoon was had by all and we were lucky to secure this event just before the Government lockdown.
“Until we are able to get together again stay safe and keep dancing!”
