Organisers of the glitzy money-spinner had thought about moving it to nearer Christmas, but with the uncertainty and other problems this would cause, it was not possible to do so.

Tickets paid for will be refunded - you can contact Lucy Mothersdale via the White Lily Ball Facebook page to arrange.

The ball raises vital funds for Saint Catherine's, Butterwick Hospice and Zoe's Place.

Lucy, who lost both her mum and dad to cancer, said: "We will look at ways of trying to fundraise for the hospices from home, as they are still in dire need of funds, now more than ever."

A provisional date of July 2, 2021, has been arranged at Raithwaite, for the 10th year of the ball.

"We will be back next year and we will have the best ball ever," she said.

"Stay safe and hope to see you all soon."
