Win a free tattoo in Scarborough: Raffle fundraiser supporting the Special Care Baby Unit

A tattoo artist in Scarborough is holding a raffle with a difference this month to raise money for York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity to support Scarborough’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU)

Meg Braithwaite, tattoo artist at Tough Love Studio in Scarborough, has launched a fundraising raffle to ensure new parents can enjoy special memory books, put together by the SCBU. The raffle will give people a chance to win vouchers for a tattoo with Meg at the studio, while also raising money for the SCBU to continue to provide a heart warming service.

Meg said: “My eldest son spent a week there (SCBU) after being born at 36 weeks, and it was a challenging time for my family. However, the incredible staff made this journey so much easier for us. The personalised progress book of my son really helped make myself and my partner feel like we weren’t alone and that the staff cared for our baby as much as we did. I formed lasting friendships with other parents who were going through similar experiences who also treasure their memory books from SCBU.

“One day, a fellow parent shared that the nurses could no longer create memory books for their babies due to lack of funding. I still cherish my son's memory book seven years later and read it often, as it holds precious memories of his early days.

“I found out that the memory books aren’t funded and that they had also run out of the supplies to make them. They really helped with bonding and remembering such a stressful and scary time in a positive way. It broke my heart to hear that they are no longer able to offer this. So I wanted to start a fundraiser to get some pennies together to make this possible.

“This is why I am participating in a tattoo raffle, to hopefully raise at least £300 for this vital cause. Together, we can ensure that every family has access to these beautiful keepsakes that celebrate their little ones' journeys. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of families facing similar challenges.”

The Just Giving page has already proved popular, with Meg already smashing her initial target of £300.

Prizes will be: 2x £70 vouchers, 1x £50 voucher and 1x £20 voucher.
