5. March
It is announced that England's first seaweed farm is to be created off Scarborough. The company, Seagrown, set up by a former fisherman and his wife, will create 25 jobs in the town.
6. March
Staff at McCain Food were given an extra day off as the firm celebrated being part of the Scarborough community for a staggering 50 years.
7. April
Alan Aykbourn, Scarborough's adopted son and famous playwright, turned 80 on April 12. His play Birthdays Past, Birthdays Present which premiered at the Stephen Joseph Theatre later in the year, was a nod to the milestone.
8. April
Sci Fi Scarborough returned for 2019 with appearances from famous famous such as Harry Potter actor Chris Rankin and Game of Thrones star Ross O'Hennessy.
