The elusive poet, who refers to himself as “Composer Mark Jones”, has been sending upbeat, romantic and meaningful poems to various hairdressers about the town.

John Paul’s Hairdressers have received four or five poems now which have put a smile on their faces.

Owner John Paul Crawford said: “We were just really shocked at first. I think it’s nice.”

John Paul posted the poem on Facebook and discovered other hairdressers have received them. It is believed that most poems end with “Keep your chin up, keep smiling” with all the poems being written on black card in white or silver ink. Poems from Mark Jones have been popping up at hairdressers across the country from Wales to Newcastle. The poem comes with a Lancashire post stamp but the true identity of the poet has yet to be revealed. Some have dubbed him the Banksy of the poetry world.

However one hair salon finds the poems a bit unnerving. Elaine Rackham, of Donnelles Hair Studio, at Seamer, said: “It’s a bit weird. Some of them have been a bit dark and deep. A couple were a bit romantic.”

She wonders who is really sending the poems and why.
