Scarborough Fire: York Place reopens after police shut town centre road

York Place has been reopened by police to traffic after it was shut this morning following a fire at Lazenby's restaurant.

The fire started in the roof space of an extension to the rear of Lazenby's restaurant with firefighters entering through the front door to gain access.

Police and firefighters appear to have left the scene at around 1pm, with the road reopening.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call around 10.08am this morning to reports of smoke seen inside the ground floor on York Place, and police shut the road shortly after.

No injuries were reported by firefighters and the incident remains open for a revisit this afternoon.

Following the closure, tailbacks began to form on Albemarle Crescent with two park and ride bus services stuck on the one-way street.

Lazenby's restaurant recently acquired new owners in June.
