Another Conservative Scarborough councillor quits the party

Helen Mallory, who represents Seamer ward on the authority, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that she had stepped down from the group.

Hide AdThe former deputy leader of the council has been a member of the authority since 2003.
Cllr Mallory said she did not want to say any more about her reasons for stepping away from the party at this time or what her future plans were.
Her resignation leaves the Conservatives as still the largest single party on the authority with 14 seats out of 46.

Hide AdNext comes Labour with 13 and then their coalition partners the Independent Group with 10.
Cllr Mallory is the second councillor to leave the Tories since the May 2019 elections.
Cllr Andrew Backhouse quit the group in November last year after he did not progress as a candidate to defend his seat in the North Yorkshire County Council elections scheduled to take place in 2021.

Hide AdA spokesman for the Conservative Group declined to comment on Cllr Mallory’s resignation when contacted.
