The visitor welcome and facility support team at Whitby Town Council (WTC) could see a new staff member join, if proposals are approved.

WTC’s human resources committee is set to discuss the appointment of a new staff member as well as plans to hire a current volunteer on a temporary basis.

The visitor welcome and facility support team is focused on the “efficient and effective delivery of support services for Pannett Art Gallery and Whitby Town Council.

“Our team members play an active role in maintaining the highest standards of customer care with a family-friendly focus, while ensuring the security and cleanliness of the gallery and throughout the building,” according to the council’s website.

“Support services will encompass front of house, retail, admin, collections care and caretaking duties and assisting with a variety of events and activities for Pannet Art Gallery and WTC.”

The HR committee, which is due to meet on Wednesday, January 28, will also “consider, and if agreed, approve interim staffing arrangements […] for the temporary engagement of an existing volunteer on a paid basis.”

A draft town council budget for 2026/27 proposes allocating £266,500 for salaries, while the overall ‘revised’ expenditure of the authority would be about £569,000.

However, the budget has not yet been finalised and approved.

At last month’s HR committee meeting, councillors unanimously approved a recommendation that Ryan Fuller should be appointed the town clerk, with a probationary period of six months at a starting salary of £59,922 a year.
