"It has been a difficult, challenging year we have gone through.

"But, we have a full complement of staff and are moving in the right direction.

"It is very positive. I am really looking forward to a proactive year and working with everyone to achieve that."

Coun Turner told the Whitby Gazette she is looking to expand on the Whitby Mayoral Community Champions which she launched last year.

The champions awards were made to unsung heroes nominated by people in the community.

Anyone in the community could nominate their champion, giving reasons why the nominee deserved to be recognised, making it a community champion chosen by the community event.

Coun Turner said at the time that they were launched that being a councillor, for her, had always meant putting the community first.

"The community awards were received so well I would like to follow this up in some vein and to being back a little bit of pride,” she said.

"We’ll run the Mayoral Champions again but I want to expand on that a little bit.

"I’m pleased to be re-elected and appreciate the support from fellow members.”

Coun Jonathan Harston was re-elected as Deputy Mayor for the 2026/27 municipal year.
