New Whitby bar and restaurant applies for outdoor seating ahead of opening

Plans have gone to introduce outdoor seating to a new bar and restaurant in Whitby.

The Treasury, at 4, Baxtergate, is seeking permission for outdoor seating at the business which is set to open this spring.

It recently received a premises licence granting alcohol sales from 8am, after also getting the green light for its conversion to a bar, restaurant, and holiday lets.

Ali Hussain’s licence application for the historic Grade-II listed property is currently open to representations by members of the public.

A businessman and Whitby lifeboat crew member, Mr Hussain said: “Opening in spring 2026, we’re thrilled to welcome locals and tourists alike to discover, enjoy, and return to everything our new venue has to offer.”

Comments regarding the application for outdoor seating at the front of the premises should be received by the council no later than Thursday, March 5.

According to The Treasury’s website, its “exclusive first-floor dining area will feature a rooftop balcony overlooking the River Esk and the heart of Whitby”.

It adds: “With a focus on quality, elegance, and impeccable service, The Treasury will celebrate the best of local and seasonal produce.

“From the freshest seafood sourced locally to renowned local favourites, our menu will be crafted for those who appreciate premium dining.”

Representations on the application should be sent in writing to: North Yorkshire Council, Licensing Services, Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG or by email to [email protected].
