Plan to replace Whitby road signs set for council discussion
Plans to replace and update Whitby road signs will be discussed at a full meeting of the town council.
Whitby Town Council is considering updating and replacing three road signs on the outskirts of the town following the abolition of the former Scarborough Borough Council.

The authority’s full meeting will discuss the proposal at the Pannett Art Gallery at 6pm on Tuesday, December 16.
A report prepared for councillors includes a proposed design for the replacement signage.
However, the cost of updating the signs would likely have to be borne by the authority.
Cllr Neil Swannick, who represents the Whitby Streonshalh division on North Yorkshire Council, has informed the town council “that NYC has refused to replace the signs as they would have to do all the old signs across the county,” according to the report.
It adds: “Cllr Swannick did say that the civic society is looking into this, should Whitby Town Council approach them.”
Other items on the agenda include general updates on finance and recent payments, as well as town development and harbour issues.
New cemetery provision, the regular public opening of the Victoria Spa Well, and a report on the items recently raised by residents regarding the harbour have been scheduled for discussion.
“Whether the location of the former weighbridge is on harbour land” is also on the agenda.
Members of the public are invited to attend and ask questions at the meeting.
