VIDEO: Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson endorses Scarborough and Whitby Conservative candidate

In the video, Mr Johnson said: “He is one of the good guys and would be a terrific local MP!”

The former PM has endorsed several other candidates, including the MP Simon Clarke who was part of an attempt to replace Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister earlier this year.

Tens of thousands of letters signed by Mr Johnson are also expected to be posted across the country, according to the Guardian.

Mr Johnson is no longer an MP and resigned as Prime Minister in 2022 after a mass revolt of ministers that followed scandals including Partygate.

Conservative candidate Mr Weeden-Sanz said: “I am thrilled to have Boris’ support.

“Boris knows that a vote for Reform here would just hand Starmer a huge majority for five years which would be bad for democracy with no accountability or opposition.

“It is a two-horse race in Scarborough and Whitby and the only way to stop Labour winning here is to vote for me!”
