Whitby fish and chip restaurant Papas set to return to former site
A fish and chip restaurant chain could return to its former location in Whitby, new plans submitted by the company suggest.
Papas Fish and Chips is set to return to its former site at Baxtergate near the town’s iconic Swing Bridge after vacating the site, which was until recently occupied by burger chain Wendy’s.
Wendy’s announced its departure from the town centre location last month amid a relocation to a drive-thru “in the nearby area”.
Papas Fish and Chips, which has sites in Scarborough, Hull, and Blackpool, has applied for a premises licence for the site at 76-79 Baxtergate.

The sale of alcohol has been proposed for consumption both on and off the premises, as well as the playing of recorded music.
As part of the premises licence application, the provision of late-night refreshments would also be allowed on the premises.
Members of the public who want to comment on the proposal can do so until Wednesday, May 20.
Anyone who wishes to make representations regarding an application must give notice in writing to: North Yorkshire Council, Licensing Services, Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG.
Comments can also be sent to the authority by email at [email protected].
North Yorkshire Council’s website states: “It is an offence knowingly or recklessly to make a false statement in connection with an application punishable on summary conviction by an unlimited fine.”
