Historic Danby Castle wedding venue near Whitby applies for premises licence
Danby Castle has applied to North Yorkshire Council for an alcohol licence and permission to play live music at its wedding venue.
Danby Castle Barn, located on an aristocrat’s North York Moors estate near Whitby, wants permission to play live music seven days a week and to serve late-night refreshments.

This summer, an old lambing barn at Danby Castle was opened as a wedding venue following the completion of a two-year project to transform the building.
The estate was once the home of Catherine Parr, before her marriage to King Henry VIII.
The application submitted to the council seeks a licence to play live and recorded music at Danby Castle Barn from 10am to midnight, Monday to Sunday.
The “performances of dance” would also be permitted from 11pm to midnight, seven days a week.
The supply of alcohol for consumption on and off the premises has been proposed at Danby Castle Barn from 10am to midnight, Monday to Sunday.
Additionally, permission for the provision of late-night refreshments has been requested from 10pm to midnight, daily.
According to its website, Danby Castle was constructed in the 14th Century by the Latimer family, whose members included some of the most powerful nobles of medieval England.
In the 17th Century, Danby was bought by John Dawnay and the Estate has remained with the Dawnay family since then.
