Oktoberfest event set to return in 2020 as application submitted for Tipi Venue to become regular fixture

Following the success of an Oktoberfest event held in tipis at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre, a licence application has been put forward to make the tents a regular sight at the venue. Scarborough Bar Services Ltd and Richard Egan have applied to Scarborough Council to use the Tipi Venue throughout the winter at the North Bay attraction.

As part of the application, Scarborough Bar Services has applied to use the party venue for events held between September 1 and May 31 every year, outside of the summer concert period of the music venue.

The Tipi Venue, which makes use of double Kata Tipi tent for its functions, held three weekends of German-themed entertainment at the venue earlier this year using temporary event notices.

The company is already advertising tickets for next year’s event.

It states: “After a great success and high demand on this year’s event we are bringing the spirit of Oktoberfest back to Scarborough again in 2020.

“We will be featuring the very same extremely talented Yorkshire Oompah Band for an evening of lively Oktoberfest entertainment but with an added bonus of a special guest to support them prior to their appearance.”

The licence application covers the selling of alcohol and the playing of music.

The use of the venue out of season was recently praised in a report to Scarborough councillors by cabinet member Cllr Tony Randerson.

He wrote: “So far a number of sell-out Oktoberfest events have been held in the tipi and a number of bookings are being taken for parties and weddings in the tipi.

“The operator pays a rent direct to the council for use of the land.”

The closing date for submissions for the premises licence is tomorrow, visit www.scarborough.gov.uk/scarborough-open-air-theatre-tipi-venue-notice-application.
