Residents urged to lobby planning committee over Burniston fracking plans
Frack Free Coastal Communities and Frack Free Scarborough are urging residents to join a lobby outside North Yorkshire Council's strategic planning committee meeting on Friday, January 30, where councillors will decide on Europa Oil & Gas's application to drill and frack for gas at Burniston.
The planning application has attracted more than 1,600 objections from local residents, local MP Alison Hume, parish councils including Burniston, Cloughton, Newby & Scalby, Scarborough Town Council, and Friends of the Earth.

Professor Chris Garforth of Frack Free Coastal Communities said: "The volume of objections shows the community’s anger against this scheme.
“We need to drive that message home with a big and vibrant event outside the planning meeting itself.
“Councillors should be left in no doubt that it is their civic duty to vote against this dangerous and destructive plan."
John Atkinson from Frack Free Scarborough added: "The more people who turn up on the 30th, the clearer the message: our community says ‘no’ to drilling for gas at Burniston on climate, health, seismic and environmental grounds."
Protestors are encouraged to gather outside the Town Hall on St Nicholas Street from 12.45pm on Friday, January 30.
The planning committee meeting begins at 1.30pm
