The county has 728 registered sex offenders, as revealed by a Freedom of Information Act request made to North Yorkshire Police.

The Free Press asked Humberside Police for the same information relating to the East Riding.

But the force said the data was unobtainable.

Humberside Police commented: “Unfortunately we don’t hold the data by single authority. The data is only recorded by North Bank and South Bank.

“To identify numbers in the single authority would require each record being checked.”

It means Humberside Police are exempt from disclosing the information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

To retrieve data for the East Riding only, “it would exceed the appropriate limit of 18 hours or as a cost equivalent to £450”, according to the force.

Throughout the whole of the Humberside Police area - which is also comprised of parts of Lincolnshire - the total number of registered sex offenders was 1,091, in 2015.

It means Bridlington is home to just 6.4 per cent of the police force area’s registered sex offenders.

Police were also asked to reveal the number of sex offenders living close to schools in Bridlington.

Again, the force said the data could not be retrieved, as it would breach the prescribed time limits set out by the Freedom of Information Act.

Another Freedom of Information Act request revealed Whitby had only 20 registered sex offenders living there.
