When Ros Jones discovered both her sister and mum were suffering from cancer, she sprang into action.

She donned her running shoes and set off to run ‘a whole marathon in two parts’, to raise cash for the cancer unit at the hospital which provided them with outstanding care.

Ros, who lives in Scarborough, has just learned that her efforts placed her in the top three per cent of Justgiving’s 532,124 fundraisers UK-wide during 2015. She raised more than £3,315 in total after running the Grunty Fen and Great Scottish Half Marathons on 13 September and 4 October.

Sadly, her sister, Christine, lost her brave battle with colon cancer last September, a week after her 55th birthday. However, mum Vyvian, 74, continues to ward off the effects of ovarian cancer.

Ros, a Scarborough-based business success coach, has been overwhelmed by the generosity her friends and family showed towards her cause.

She said: “The past year has been a very emotional time for my family and I, but the generosity everyone has shown towards my fundraising appeal lifted us up.”

Anyone who would like to make a donation to Ros’s appeal can still do so at www.justgiving.com/Ros-Jones2.
