Following the huge success of the last Community Weekend in April, Scampston is inviting local people to the gardens for free this weekend (Saturday 8 October and Sunday 9 October).

Scampston welcomed nearly 1,000 locals into the gardens on the last community weekend and organisers of the event are hoping even more residents will turn up.

Chris Legard, owner of Scampston Hall and Walled Garden, said: “We were so thrilled to see so many new faces and families last April, so we have decided to re-open to residents at the tail-end of the open season.

“So many of the visitors to our last community weekend had never visited Scampston before, despite it being on their doorstep. There was such a fabulous atmosphere here in the gardens, and we were really keen to recreate that, or even to top it.

“We have chosen this weekend in October as it will allow visitors to see the transition that the garden goes through across the seasons.

“It was designed by Piet Oudolf to have a different character throughout the year, but still to maintain its striking beauty. It is known for being quite a late garden, so there will still be plenty to see.

“As it generates such excitement in the local community, we hope to run in it on two weekends in the future. Please do check our website for the next date in April 2017.”

To gain entry to the Walled Garden and Parkland at Scampston on the 8 and 9 October, residents are asked to bring proof of a Ryedale postcode.
