The D-Class vessel was launched at 8.50pm to reports of five people in a dinghy in the South Bay, near the Spa.

The dinghy had managed to return to the shore by the time rescuers could reach them and the occupants were with the coastguards.

Scarborough RNLI received their new inshore lifeboat, for the first time in more than 11 years, on Thursday last week.

The RNLI advises anyone going out to sea in a dinghy to be aware of the danger of being swept out to sea.

If you see anyone injured or in distress at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
