Scarborough RUFC Head Coach Ben Foden praises new recruits

Scarborough RUFC Head Coach Ben Foden admits that the excitement is starting to build up following four new signings joining the club ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Jack Glansfield, Max Jefferies, Jack Davies and Seth Bodill have already signed for the Silver Royd club’s upcoming campaign and Foden has shared his delight at adding four fresh faces to the squad.

He said: “I think it’s always good for any team to have a nice blend of youth, because they bring the nous of how to win games, but you can’t keep the attributes that young players bring to the game, which is work-rate and speed.

“So, the way the game is now and the rules that have changed the game over the years, it really does favour the more attacking and brave players.

“Speed is something you want in abundance, and speed and power, I always say, fills the team and the way you want to play as well so we’ll utilise that as best as we can.”

Young fly-half Glansfield joins the club having previous played at Bishop Burton, Prop Jefferies joins having previously had spells at Morley, and also in Hong Kong for the Shenzen Pirates, whereas Davies and Bodill are familiar faces for the Scarborough faithful as they return after a previous spell at the club.

Foden added: “We want to have a good squad, and we saw that, last year, it takes a group of 20+ players to win a title.

“The more competition that we have for places, the higher standards we get in training, the better we play.

“That’s the whole idea this year, to try and increase our player pool to a point where it drives standards up and hopefully, we’ll see that as well.

The RFU are set to release the league fixtures at the end of this month and Foden has his eye on when they will be playing against their derby rivals.

“We’re also excited about the fixture list being released.

“Obviously, big local rivals in terms of Driffield and York to look forward to as well.

“That’s what everyone is looking forward to, packed out days, coming away, travelling for good days, packing out Silver Royd.

“That’s what we’re all about, really.”
