Three-time Olympic GB Diver and Commonwealth Gold medallist Rebecca Gallantree’s visit included a fun fitness circuit of exercise where pupils from Years 3 to 8, plus some of the teachers, tested their sporting prowess through a range of physical activities on the day.

Rebecca gave a motivational assembly about the hard work and determination it has taken for her to achieve her lifelong Olympic goals and to compete at the highest levels in the sport she has loved from a young age.

“With sport being such an important part of life at Scarborough College, the visit of a prolific GB Olympic Athlete was humbling as well as inspiring for many of our young students and staff,” said a college spokesperson.

Working in partnership with Sports for Schools, Scarborough College hosted a fund-raising sponsorship event on the news of Rebecca’s visit. This involved the pupils being sponsored for doing their own Olympic athlete standard training programme of star jumps, spotty dogs, press-ups and bicycle crunches.

With much determination and hard work, they raised over £1,000. Part of the funds raised will go towards new sports equipment at the school and part is donated to Rebecca to support her development as a coach, following her recent retirement from competitive diving. She hopes to help nurture the next generation of Olympic GB stars.
