Planning permission has been granted for the first stage of the Bridlington masterplan, which will see around 1,500 new homes built to the north of the town.

Gleeson Homes announced last December that it had been chosen to build 164 two, three and four-bedroomed houses on the brownfield site at the top of Pinfold Lane, which has been used as an informal scrap yard and been prone to fly-tipping.

The Scunthorpe-based developer has issued an artist’s impression of how the estate could look.

Bryan Simpson, regional director for Gleeson Homes said: “We’re delighted that the council has given us the go ahead to re-develop the site. I think local people will be pleased to hear that our homes are extremely affordable.

“We are confident that the new homes will kick start the wider development of the area and would be delighted to be involved in future phases.”

Gleeson said the homes will be available to buy from £104,995.

It is also looking for sub-contractors to work on the project and young people who are interested in the company’s apprenticeship scheme.

The council’s housing masterplan will see1,500 homes built in several phases between Scarborough Road and Airedale Drive.
