Bridge at Scalby set to be closed for several weeks after car crashes into it

A bridge in Scalby could be shut until next year after a car reportedly hit it.

The bridge over the sea cut at Hackness Road in Scalby was damaged on Monday last week.

The Hackness Road bridge is closed to vehicles and pedestrians.

A stretch of the bridge's parapet measuring 15-20ft has been damaged.

Stones from the parapet are lying in the sea cut below.

The bridge, which is near the allotments, has been closed to vehicles and pedestrians while repairs are carried out.

There is a diversion along Scalby Road and through Scalby village.
