County Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Access, said: “Work began on site immediately after the incident to make the area safe. We are now repairing the damage to the bridge that took place this week as well as the damage on the opposite side due to a collision earlier in the year.

“Unfortunately, vehicle strikes on our bridges, many of which are listed structures, are becoming more frequent. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause, and ask for your cooperation during the works period.”

Pedestrian access will be maintained where it is safe to do so. Operatives working on site will be observing all Government guidelines on safe social distancing.
