Unexploded device found at property in Barrowcliff; residents evacuated, bomb disposal team on way

Police are currently at the scene of an incident in Scarborough which has resulted in the closure of the road.

During a search at a property in Barrowcliff Road earlier today, officers discovered an old unexploded device.

A cordon is in place. Neighbouring residents have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution and are being moved to a nearby school as a place of safety.

It is understood that the Wreyfield Drive shops have closed as a precaution.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are currently on their way to the scene and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
