He was rushed to Scarborough Hospital but died just after he arrived.

The Health and Safety Executive are understood to be investigating the tragedy, while the village united in grief as word quickly spread of the death of a “true gentleman”.

On Facebook, friends posted pictures of a single beer can on top of their cars as they overlooked the village – a final drink for a popular figure in Hunmanby’s pubs.

On social media, hundreds of friends paid tribute to a “genuinely lovely person” while the village’s home page said Hunmanby was in shock at Mr Brown’s death.

“He was the heart and soul of Hunmanby, a true class act who everyone thought the world
of.

“The village is in mourning for the loss of a true legend.”

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at around 1.15pm on Tuesday April 14, after reports of an industrial accident.

“A 42-year-old man was seriously injured in the incident and was taken to Scarborough Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time after arriving.
