Volunteer appeal at new town foodbank

Natalie Burgin is planning to open a new foodbank at the Late Night Pharmacy on Promenade to provide residents of Bridlington in need with food and other products.

The 38-year-old will be running the foodbank on Tuesdays and Thursdays but she is in need of adding to her team of 10 volunteers to make the scheme a success.

She said: “The foodbank is certainly neccessary with the area being deprived in certain ways. People don’t have the money and this is a great opportunity to help the people of Bridlington.”

The foodbank will be relying on donations from supermarkets with Tesco and Morrisons already on-board. The bank will be funded mostly through donations and Natalie plans to host a number of events throughout the year to raise funds with the help of the charity Trussel Trust, who have more than 400 foodbanks in the UK.

She said: “We need people who can sacrifice their own time to serve people in the coffee shop, which will be opening up next door to the pharmacy, pick the products up from the supermarkets who have donated and helping to pack the food up.

“It’s a fantastic cause to help fellow residents in the town have access to what we usually take for granted.”
