Extended Scarborough weekend weather forecast as Storm Ciara brings heavy rain and 55mph winds

The UK is braced for Storm Ciara to hit this weekend, with 80mph winds expected in some parts of the country.

A yellow weather warning for wind covering the whole country has been put in place by the Met Office for Sunday, as the third named storm of the season approaches.

Storm Ciara is the third named storm of the 2019/20 winter season, and follows Storm Atiyah, which hit on December 8 to 9, and Storm Brendan, which brought wind and rain to the country on January 13 to 14.

Met Office forecasters predict winds will begin to pick up from 5pm on Friday evening.

The gales will steadily increase across the weekend, before reaching a peak wind gust of 57mph between 9an and 12pm on Sunday morning.

Strong winds are expected to continue into the start of next week.

Will it rain in Scarborough?

It is currently predicted to rain on Sunday.

Heavy rain is 90 per cent likely from 3am to 3pm when it is expected to ease off into showers until 9pm.

Conditions should then dry off.

The Met Office say Storm Ciara will bring very strong winds and potentially some disruption to travel throughout Sunday.

Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible as well as from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could also happen.

Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Friday February 7

5pm to 10pm

Wind gusts will begin to pick up to between 31mph and 34mph.

The wind will be coming from a southerly direction.

The evening will be mostly clear with some clouds rolling in from 9pm.

Temperatures are expected to feel around 5 degrees.

10pm to 6am

Wind gusts will remain around 35mph, building to 39mph by 5am.

The winds will continue from a southerly direction until 4am when it will move to a southwesterly.

Conditions will be mostly overcast and cloudy with a 50 per cent chance of light rain at 3am.

Saturday February 8

6am to 12pm

Cloud will clear by 8am and conditions are expected to be sunny.

Temperatures will feel around 1 degrees.

Wind gusts will drop slightly to 31mph on average.

The wind will continue in a southwesterly direction.

12pm to 6pm

Cloud will partially cover the sunshine from 2pm to 4pm.

Temperatures will feel 4 degrees at their peak from 1pm to 4pm.

Wind gusts will build to 39mph at 5pm and southwesterly wind direction will change to south-southwesterly from 1pm.

6pm to 10pm

Wind gusts will start to increase even more hitting 48mph by 8pm.

The wind will continue in a south-southwesterly direction.

The evening will be clear until 8pm when clouds are expected to roll in.

Temperatures are forecast to feel 2 degrees.

10pm to 6am

The wind gust will build to 54mph at 6am.

Conditions will continue to be cloudy until 3am when there is a 90 percent chance of heavy rain.

Temperatures will continue to feel 2 degrees.

Wind direction continues to be south-southwesterly.

Sunday February 9

6am to 12pm

Wind gust is expected to peak at 57mph at 9am.

Temperatures will feel like 5 degrees, climbing to 7 by midday.

Heavy rain is forecast throughout the morning.

12pm to 6pm

The rain will ease to showers at 3pm.

Wind gusts reduce but remain in the high 40s.

From 12pm wind direction changes to southwest.

6pm to 12am

Conditions are expected to dry up from 6pm.

Temperatures will drop, feeling like 2 degree.

Wind gusts will start to drop, falling to 37mph by 9pm.
