High winds and gales from Storm Arwen have caused widespread damage and disruption across Scarborough.

The extreme weather saw winds of up to 75mph, the threshold for hurricane speeds, batter the coast overnight between Friday November 26 and Saturday November 27.

Weather warnings remain in place as roads were closed, cars crushed by falling trees, public transport suspended, and properties damaged.

Photographer Richard Ponter braved the elements to showcase the impact of the storm across Scarborough.
