WEATHER: Weather warning starts week ahead in North Yorkshire

A severe weather warning is in place for much of North Yorkshire from 05:00 Tuesday until 21:00 Tuesday.

High winds are forecast across the county with some disruption in places.

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves

Headline: Cloudy and windy with some rain during Monday afternoon

Today:

- Cloudy with strong southwesterly winds. Some patchy drizzle in the morning over the Pennines before outbreaks of locally heavy rain spread quickly eastwards during the afternoon. Turning dry by evening with some brightness likely to end the day. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

- Cloud clearing most areas to give some long clear spells and feeling quite cold by the end of the night as the brisk winds decrease. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Tuesday:

- Cloud soon increasing and thickening with outbreaks of rain affecting some parts, most likely the Pennines. Mainly dry further east. Winds becoming very strong and gusty with gales probable. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

- Wednesday windy but mostly dry with some sunny spells. Some uncertainty for Thursday and Friday with generally cloudy conditions a chance of rain. Temperatures near or slightly below normal.
