Woman ‘whacked’ partner with bedpan

Linda Shearsmith even pulled a knife on her partner and threatened to kill him, after he dampened the duvet at their Whitby holiday home.

The 53-year-old flew into a violent rage after the victim’s troublesome bladder flared up in the wee hours of November 3.

She picked up the potty and clocked him on the head three times before grabbing the blade and yelling “you trashed mine, (so) I’ll trash yours” as she damaged items including pictures.

At her Scarborough Magistrates’ sentencing, the court heard how she was “extremely angry” at being woken by her partner’s puddle.

Her anger was fuelled by the victim seemingly snubbing a bed ban, imposed on him for when he’d had a drink due to his history of “making a mess”, and had been banished to the sofa.

The hearing on Friday January 2 also heard that when she was arrested, she admitted attacking her partner after failing to rouse him from his slumber - while his waterworks continued.

The attack left the victim with “soreness” on the head, and occurred around eight months into their relationship.

When questioned about her partner by police, the Brough resident said the man - also her current business partner - “doesn’t shut up”.

But despite that, her partner hadn’t wanted the case to come to court, nor had he sought compensation.

And in his brief mitigation, her solicitor David Camidge said Shearsmith, who has one previous drink driving conviction, has been “very concerned about the outcome of the case”.

And a relieved Shearsmith said “thank you” when told she wouldn’t be going to jail for the assault and criminal damage, which she’d pleaded guilty to on November 14.

She’s been handed a community order, and ordered to complete an alcohol treatment order along with 80 hours unpaid work.

And the Chapel Garth resident will be forced to spend more than a penny, after being ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 surcharge for the attack.
