The star wrote, “Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you … Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

“We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.

“We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x.”

"They were fireworks"

The singer has always maintained a lot of privacy in his personal life and in his relationship with Seaborn.

The couple met back in school but went their separate ways.

After reconnecting they quickly became engaged in 2018.

In 2019 he announced to his fans that they had married, but did not elaborate any further details about the wedding.

However the world was given a rare peak into their relationship in his music video for Put It All On Me, which he released last year.

The couple make their appearance near the end of the video, with a home video clip in which they are dancing and kissing in their kitchen.

The video described their romance with the words "Back in high school, Ed & Cherry were crushing hard."

Referencing the singer's hit song Castle on the Hill, named after Framlingham Castle near where the singer grew up, the video goes on to explain: "They made out at the castle on the hill / A few years ago they reconnected, there were fireworks / They married in January 2019.”

Why did Sheeran take a break from social media?

In December 2019 the 29-year-old announced to his Instagram followers that he was taking a break from  social media and work in order to "go out and see more of the world".

Describing his life as "a bit non-stop since 2017" he had decided to "take a breather to travel write and read".

In full, Sheeran wrote, "Hello all. Gonna go on another break again. The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.

“I’ve been a bit non stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write and read. Il be off all social media until it’s time to come back.

“To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya – and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing, I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.

“Lots of love x.”

The singer-songwriter had once before taken a hiatus from his social media platforms back in 2016.
