The UK is set to be hit by wintry conditions this week (commencing 1 February 2021), including sub zero temperatures and up to 15 inches of snow in parts of the country.

Here’s the upcoming weather forecast.

In England, the North East will experience a spell of persistent snow on Tuesday (2 Feb) morning. Higher parts of northern England could see more than eight inches of snow, while others could see anything from 0.4 inches to four inches. The temperature will reach a peak of 2C, with rain and snow continuing on Wednesday and Thursday.

In Yorkshire, expect snow and sleet first thing on Tuesday morning, before the snow is confined to the hills. Some residents could experience up to four inches of snow.

The West Midlands could see up to 1.5 inches of snowfall on Monday night, however a period of freezing rain may change things.

In Scotland, the Grampians are expected to see up to eight inches of snow on Wednesday, with scattered snow showers also appearing across the week

A Met Office warning for Thursday to Saturday warns of an additional 12 inches (30cm) of snow above 250 metres, four to eight inches above 150m, and two inches at lower levels.

The Highlands will see temperatures drop to -6C overnight on Monday, with the potential for up to eight inches of snow on Wednesday.

The UK long range forecast from the Met Office says: “High pressure then looks to gradually build to the north, which will introduce cold and dry weather across the UK, with widespread overnight frosts, though wintry showers could still feed in from the east coast at times.

“It will likely feel cold, or rather cold, especially in brisk easterly winds. Icy stretches along with other disruptive wintry hazards, remain a possibility for all areas.

“There also remains the possibility of milder and wetter conditions fringing the far northwest at times, along with organised areas of cloud and precipitation making limited progress inland from the southwest.”
