I found great food cosy rooms and a stunning moorland location at this Peak District hideaway near Chatsworth

Located in a wide stretch of Derbyshire moorland set above the world-famous Chatsworth Estate, the Hide is the ideal place for exploring the stunning beauty of the Peak District.

Not only is the location perfect for those wanting to get back to nature and explore the breath-taking countryside, but it offers stylish and comfortable rooms as well as delicious food for those who have worked up an appetite in the great outdoors.

Overseen by executive chef Adam Harper, The Hide Grill and Pizzeria is inspired by classic outdoor cooking, using locally sourced ingredients from estate farms and gardens and trusted suppliers.

On a chilly winter night, the menu looked particularly inviting and to start, we enjoyed the BBQ prawns, served with garlic, lemon and parsley butter glaze (£8.50), as well as the smoked fishcakes with Cajun sauce (£7.95). Both dishes were moreish and left us looking forward to the mains.

Guests have plenty to choose from a wide-ranging menu at The Hide, which includes steaks and salads, rib plates, stone-baked pizzas, fish dishes and BBQ tofu.

My eye was drawn to the pork belly, which is brined and smoked with brown sugar, then cooked low and slow (£18.99). The meat simply melted in the mouth, and the sweet, smoky flavours brought back comforting memories of childhood bonfire nights.

Served with skin-on fries, crunchy onion rings as my chosen side dish and a colourful and sharp slaw that cut through the rich meat, it was deliciously satisfying.

So much so, there was no room for dessert – although those with a sweet tooth will find plenty to tempt them, from a S’mores sharing board to ginger parkin and affogato.

A word too for the restaurant staff, who were both helpful and friendly, making the evening relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable.

Leaving the bar, we made our way to the hotel area of The Hide, which is accommodated in a separate building a few steps away.

The fact that the venue has been designed with the great outdoors in mind is clear the moment you step into the reception area, where you are met by the boot store – the perfect place to change out of and stash muddy shoes after an afternoon exploring the nearby moorland.

The cosy room had everything we needed, from the flat screen TV, free WIFI and tea and coffee making facilities to a walk-in shower for freshening up after a day outdoors.

With natural tones and wooden finishes, the décor of the room was comforting, clean and restful – bringing with it a touch of the Derbyshire landscape outside my window.
