This retro photo gallery captures some of the best photos taken across Yorkshire during the 80s.
The nostalgic images include lost shops, much-missed pubs and nightclubs, and popular visitor attractions of the era.
They also capture popular culture of the 1980s, with the likes of Black Lace, the band responsible for some of the decade’s biggest dance floor fillers; Cheggers, during his Saturday Superstore days; and Genesis, seen playing to a huge crowd at Leeds’ Roundhay Park, all featuring.
Among the notable events pictured are the Eurovision Song Contest, memorably staged in Harrogate in 1982; and the first ever National Snowboarding Championships, at Sheffield Ski Village.
Youngsters are seen among the pinball machines at the arcade, swimmers are shown splashing about at two popular open-air pools, and one of Scarborough’s best-loved children’s attractions, Kinderland, is pictured upon its opening in 1985.
As for the shops you might remember from the 80s, they include British Home Stores, Littlewoods, and WHSmith, where the Sinclair ZX Spectrum is seen on sale, priced £99.95.
Do these photos bring back any happy 80s memories for you, and what do you miss most about life back then?
