Woodhouse, who was a professional footballer for Sheffield United and Birmingham City among others before deciding to enter the ring, has recently become a boxing promoter and hard-hitting bantamweight Downie is one of his first signings.

Downie makes his pro debut in Barnsley on Friday September 18, and he can’t wait to get going.

He said: “I was delighted to sign up with Curtis, he is a big name and has a lot of contacts.

“He proved a lot of people wrong when he won the British title after coming to boxing from football and he has big plans, so I’m excited to be a part of them going forward.”
