Rhodes will take to the ring on the show at Hull KR’s Craven Park ground on Saturday August 1 in what will be only his second professional fight.

The former Westway welterweight makes his debut next Friday night at the Barnsley Metrodome, and he is focused on the task at hand.

He said: “To be on the undercard of such a massive event in just my second fight is great.

“It’ll be the biggest show Hull has ever put on, and what a platform to be on.

“Fair play to Dave Coldwell, I haven’t even thrown a punch yet and I am going to get the opportunity to fight on such a big card like this.

“As much as I’m a boxer, I am a boxing fan and it’ll be great to be on the same card as the likes of Campbell, Coyle and Ricky Burns.

“Brian Rose is on the card and I remember him fighting my former Westway teammate Sheldon Jopling, so it’ll be good to see him in action.”

Rhodes is keeping his mind solely focused on his debut next week and won’t let his mind wander to the Hull show.

He added: “I’m 100% focussed on next Friday.

“I have some good support coming to Barnsley and I’m keen to put a good show on.”

Rhodes’ promoter Dave Coldwell is delighted the Scarborough man has the chance to shine on such a big stage.

He told The Scarborough News: “I have a good relationship with Eddie Hearn from Matchroom and I can usually get my fighters on his shows.

“It’s going to be the biggest fight Hull has ever seen, so it’s great for George to be able to box on the same show.

“It’ll do him the world of good and I know he’ll be keen to impress.

“George is a quality kid and he just needs to go out and let it flow and get the job done.

“He needs to get through his debut next week first and then we can look forward toHull.”
