“One of the main reasons for people participating in sport is to gain recognition and achieve something so I would ask clubs to take five minutes to complete the form and recognise the wealth of local sporting talent we have in the area.”

This sentiment was echoed by Scarborough Athletic joint boss Bryan Hughes, who said: “The Sports Awards are a great way of recognising and honouring achievement in local sport.

“Scarborough Athletic will support the event and urge people to get their nominations in.”

Scarborough RUFC head coach Lee Douglas also believes the awards are a great way to recognise the achivements of the area’s sporting stars and volunteers.

Douglas said: “I think without the volunteers and coaches, sport means nothing.

“They’re the ones that make it happen, so they deserve every accolade and recognition they get.

“We should always celebrate success.”
