Coffey returns to Scarborough side at Yarnbury

The Horsforth-based outfit have struggled this season, winning only four of their 15 games so far.

They sit fourth-from-bottom of the league and having registered a couple of creditable home wins over North Ribblesdale and Bradford Salem at the start of last month, lost at home 19-22 to bottom club West Park Leeds before Christmas before being on the end of a 67-0 thumping away to Bridlington in their first game after New Year.

Scarborough went down 30-18 to Bridlington last Saturday and not for the first time this season, were out-muscled in the forward battle.

Skipper Tom Ratcliffe’s side were in contention until deep in the second half, but the men from Dukes Park bossed most of the game and deserved their win.

Better news on the injury front sees Kiwi Ant Coffey return to action at outside-centre in his first game since injuring his ribs in the autumn, tight-head prop Paul Taylor plays his first game for three months for the Vikings against Goole at Silver Royd and lock Phil Watson will reportedly make his comeback next week.

Canadian prop Liam Murray had a very promising start coming off the bench against Bridlington last week and will start at tight-head against Yarnbury replacing Wesley Langkilde, who drops to the bench and is joined by Toby Welsby and Richard Scales.

Jordan Wakeham who has had a couple of starts from the bench, drops to the Vikings to hopefully play a full game against Goole at Silver Royd.

Scarborough beat Yarnbury 28-12 at home earlier in the season with Taylor and Wakeham the Seasiders’ star men; pity they’ll be on Vikings’ duty on Saturday.

Sunday sees the Valkyries back in action at Silver Royd for the first time since early November.

The Scarborough women’s XV take on Harrogate ladies, who they beat 29-5 on the road back in October.
