The battle for the Derwent Valley League division A title is hotting up after second-placed Flixton 3rds eased to a six-wicket win at home to leaders Kirkbymoorside yesterday.

Veterans Pete Hill and John Sowden once again showed their class with figures of 4-17 and 3-18 as the Moorsiders slumped to 94 all out.

Teenager Marley Ward then guided the hosts to victory with an unbeaten 27, and Flixton are now only four points behind Kirkby.

Nawton Grange 2nds are still in with a shout of promotion after snapping up a six-wicket win at struggling Lockton.

Nathan Marwood’s stunning spell of 4-9 and 4-44 from in-form George Bentley sent the hosts crashing to 69 all out, with the only knock of note coming from Guy Nattrass, who made 25.

Neil Adams’ 36 then secured the points for Grange, who are 20 points behind second-placed Flixton.

Forge Valley 3rds boosted their chances of avoiding the drop with an eight-wicket win at Wold Newton 2nds.

Phil Hall smashed 73 as the hosts reached a decent 155-7, Richard Curtis claiming 3-14 for Valley.

Stalwart Tim Farrant ended unbeaten on 96, just four runs short of a richly-deserved century for the Ayton club, Tom Vairey adding 43 as the away side strolled to victory.

Hospitals/Rugby Club’s game at home to Sherburn 2nds was called off due to a wet pitch at Silver Royd while Filey 2nds were without a game due to Sewerby 2nds’ resignation from the league.

Muston 2nds surged into top spot in division B thanks to a 106-run win at Thornton Dale 2nds, allied to former pacesetters Valley Bar Nomads suffering a five-wicket loss at home to title rivals Cayton 3rds.

Sam Woodhead’s 50 was the driving force behind Muston’s 169 all out, K Gould adding 38 and James Mcmillan 27.

Dale then slumped to 63 all out, as Kyle Orange’s 5-31 saw Muston put the squeeze on the hosts, despite a plucky 27 from Paul Waring.

Cayton 3rds’ seasoned campaigners, slow bowler Trev Davies, 3-40, and left-arm swing bowler Ian Wright, 3-18, set up their team’s five-wicket win at Oriel against Valley Bar Nomads.

The hosts were all out for 88, but they made Cayton work hard for their win and it was only a powerful 31 from Matthew Micklethwaite and a crucial unbeaten 30 from Shaun Barrass that saw them earn a priceless victory.

Snainton cruised to a 70-run home win against lowly Scalby 3rds, but the latter still managed to climb off the foot of the table thanks to the five bonus points they earned in defeat.

Michael Eyre was once again the driving force for the hosts, hitting a stylish 69, with fellow batsman Carl Wilson hammering a fine 71 as well as they posted 239-4 from their 40 overs, wicketkeeper Paul Nicholson remaining unbeaten on 31.

A swashbuckling 91 from James Wainwright kept Scalby in the hunt for an unlikely victory, while a steady unbeaten 29 from Tom Hendry ensured that the Scalby tail wagged, but 15-year-old seamer Michael Kipling’s exceedingly good spell of 3-8 was the icing on the cake for the hosts as Scalby ended on 169-7.

Wykeham 3rds won by four wickets at third-from-bottom Ganton 2nds.
