Filey stun high-flying Cayton

Filey started their first victory in 11 attempts with the ball in their hand, and it was Lee Plant who took the honours with 3-53 as Cayton were slowed to 202-8.

Nick Strangio struck 62 of these runs, while Josh Brown added a solid 49.

Filey passed this tally in confident fashion, as Paul Bowes hit 33, but it was the unbeaten stand between former Hunmanby batsmen Andy Burrell (79no) and Ryan Baldry (30no) that saw them home.

Ebberston ended their disappointing run when they crushed Scalby by nine wickets.

Scalby were dismissed for just 116, as Eddie Swiers took control with a deadly spell of 4-30, while Joe Dunnett and Reece Milner bagged two wickets each.

An elegant 56 from newly-promoted opener Jonny Mason, added to by Ady Turnbull’s 35 not out and an unbeaten 23 from Ben Lealman made sure of Ebberston’s win.

Staxton strode home by six wickets in their game against Flixton 2nds.

Alan Parvin was the top-scorer for Flixton with 39, while James Till made 33, but left-arm spinner Elliott Cooper’s 4-59 and 3-12 from Andrew Holtby saw the visitors off for 133 in 35.3 overs.

Jodie Robson’s 44 and Paul Witty’s 25 set up acting skipper Chris Dove to see his side home, as he remained unbeaten on 47 as the reigning champions won with 86 balls to spare.

Staithes collected their third consecutive win, as they won by nine wickets at home against Nawton Grange.

Grange were taken out for just 90 after 37.3 overs, as Phil Marwood made an impressive 47 and James Greenlay struck 27.

Stuart Theaker then bagged 4-12 from 12 overs and his brother Paul snaffled 3-19 to cause many of the problems.

Stuart Marsay’s unbeaten 52 and Ben Lewis’ 41 not out saw the home side romp home in double-quick time after 12.4 overs.

In division A, James Ward was the star of the show for Cayton 2nds as they beat Cloughton by 54 runs.

Cayton managed a very attainable 102 from their innings, as Pete Milner took 4-29, Phil Chambers 3-13 and Jack Hakings 3-27.

It looked bleak for Cayton until an incredible spell of 5-6 from James Ward and 4-19 from Simon Glave took out Cloughton for just 48.

Early season pace setters, Seamer cruised to a 106-run win at Wold Newton.

Gregg Chadwick made a superb 74, while support came from Adam Robertshaw’s 47 and Dave Graham also making 46 in Seamer’s total of 222/7. This was despite Oli West claiming 3-67 for the home side.

Brothers Adam and Matty Morris continued their excellent form with the ball for Seamer, Adam taking 4-24 and Matty 4-35, as Wold Newton were all out for 116.

Settrington collected their second win of the season when they beat Brompton by 94 runs.

Tom Pateman gave Settrington an early scare, as they were restricted to 16-2, but Eddie Rounthwaite stuck to his task making 33 before he was bowled by Brompton skipper James Bruce.

With the visitors falling to 73-4 and then 105-6 after 31 overs, Stephen Beal came to the crease with a job to do.

He was joined by Callum Stark, and the pair began to up the tempo with Stark making a rapid 67. Beal was happy to play second fiddle but also made a fine 40 that helped the score to 211-9. Pete Webster was the top Brompton bowler to 3-54.

Good opening spells by Ben Corner and John Huntsman (2-17) slowed the home side and wickets fell at regular intervals,

Beal took 2-1 in a brief three-over spell, and Patemen made 30 and was the last man out as Brompton were dismissed for 117.

Mulgrave booked an 80-run victory in their game against Wykeham.

Wykeham looked in a good position on their travels as Mulgrave were bowled out for 133 with skipper Gareth Barnard and Ian Spence sharing six wickets. New signing Mario Spagnuolo top-scored for the hosts with 35.

In reply, Wykeham had no answer to Carl Woodward’s 5-21 and Michael Thompson’s 4-2 as they slumped to 53 all out in the 24th over.

Grindale edged home at Sherburn by 34 runs.

Grindale reached 190 in their innings before being dismissed in the last over. Andy Smith made an unbeaten 81 to make sure of a challenging total.

Joshua Dawson also made 27, with leg spinner Ben Simpson taking 4-59.

Sherburn’s retort was led by Jack Pickard’s 44 and 27 from Jordan Wharton, but Ian Cousins’ spell of 4-41 made sure Sherburn fell short.

Forge Valley 2nds had an outstanding all-round day in division B, as they beat Scarborough 3rds by 316 runs.

Valley batted first and reached a powerful score of 353-3, with Sean Pinder remaining unbeaten on 156. James Ledden dropped two runs short of his century, while Eric Hall reached the 40s.

After tea, the game was finished swiftly, as Scarborough were bowled out for just 37.

Alastair Limb had a useful knock for Ganton as they won by five wickets against Bridlington 2nds.

Bridlington’s Greg Miller notched his second century of the season, making a fabulous 114 not out, with Steve Lount also registering a half century in an imposing final total of 244-3.

Limb then became the star of the show in the reply, as he finished unbeaten on 115 as Ganton chased the runs down in 41.3 overs.

Ravenscar’s Joe Bayes struck a brilliant 110, but that was not enough to see his side to victory as Sewerby 2nds gained their first win of the campaign by three wickets.

Ravenscar posted 193-6 thanks to Bayes’ efforts, with David Roche taking 3-30.

Sewerby’s winning reply was built around 19-year-old Sam Wragg’s 65 and with good contributions from father and son duo, Rob and Harry Gunning, making 32 and 40 not out respectively.

Staxton 2nds remain top of the division following a narrow two-wicket win over previously unbeaten Scalby 2nds.

Scalby were bowled out for 168, with Alex White making 50 and Paul Marton contributing an unbeaten 44. Josh Grove was Staxton’s top bowler with 4-49,

Young all-rounder Kingsley Gray made 39 and former first-team skipper John Mancrief’s 27 not out was enough to see Staxton make it four wins out of four.

Thornton Dale won at home against Fylingdales by 74 runs.

Tim Hunt made a fine half-century and Matthew Todd 35 as they reached 159-8 from their overs.

Fylingdales’ Roy Thompson made 32 in reply, but fine bowing from Colin Lockwood 3-9, Iain Farrow 3-12 and Lee Oliver 3-21 secured the win.

Seamer 2nds Craig Baker was the main protagonist in his team’s win by 235 runs against Cloughton 2nds in division C.

Baker made a sensational 149 not out as Seamer posted a mammoth 287-7 and this was too much for the visitors, as they were dismissed for just 52.

Jamie Haxby did the main damage as he took 4-20, and he had good support from Steve Winwood, the left-armer claiming 3/22.

Flamborough overwhelmed Muston by 10 wickets in the battle of the newly-promoted sides.

Only Phil Marr with 26, had any answer to Martin Holmes’ 4-31 and Harry Burton’s 3-4 as Muston were dismissed for 46.

Flamborough’s Luke Dixon and Andy Dixon ensured no slip ups, as they were both unbeaten in the 20s in a maximum 20-point haul.

Ryedale lost their unbeaten record, losing at home Heslerton 2nds by 10 wickets.

Paul Kinghorn’s 5-15 and Jonathan Duffill’s 3-5 gunned down Ryedale for 79, as only Dan Hardey showed any form with 40 not out.

Tony Watson’s 37 not out and John Howden’s 36 not out saw Heslerton home in comfortable fashion.

Ebberston 2nds knocked off Wykeham 2nds’ 149-4 to win by seven wickets.

Wykeham batted first and were reliant on good innings by Dale Corcoran, who made 59. Ebberston run machine, Alex Machin again proved his ability, making a superb 86 as his side eased home.
